What is AIESEC?
AIESEC is the largest youth-led organization world-wide. The organization was founded after the second World War by a group of students who determined that cross-cultural understanding was essential to prevent similar conflicts from happening again.
What is a Global Volunteer?
A Global Volunteer is someone who volunteers abroad for the greater good of the world. We send youth aged between 18 and 30 abroad so they can volunteer and help their community and the world become a better place. You can read more about global volunteers here.
What do Global Volunteer, Global Entreprenreur, and Global Talent and how are they different?
They are the different products AIESEC offers. Global Volunteer is the volunteering program where the exchange participant would be volunteering with an NGO or school to work towards one of the UN’s 17 SDGs. Global Entrepreneur is the interning program, especially for undergraduates, where they would be working at a startup in a non-paid internship. Global Talent is our other internship program, more geared towards graduate students, where they would be interning at a larger corporation, and in some cases, be paid for their work. What is the process of getting approved for an experience?
The process is actually rather simple. First, you create an account on aiesec.org. Then, a member of AIESEC will contact you to help guide you to the opportunity that is right for you. After, you submit a short application, and if you pass the preliminary stage, you will be contacted for an interview or to submit an introductory video. Once that is complete and you have been accepted to the opportunity, all that is left for you to be officially approved is for you to sign the acceptance note, take the initial LDA, and pay. The LDA, or Leadership Development Assessment, is a survey used to track the leadership development that has taken place over the course of your opportunity. You only have to take it twice - once when getting approved for your opportunity, as stated above, and once when you return. While you are preparing to go abroad, an AIESEC member will help you find the best flights and get the best insurance. If you would like more information, you can click here!
Have there been other people to go abroad before? How legitimate is AIESEC?
Yes, absolutely! AIESEC has been around for over 70 years, and we are partnered with the United Nations. There have been many, many people to go abroad through AIESEC. During the summer of 2018, we sent over 100,000 people abroad. For the story of a previous exchange participant’s experience, you can click here.
Why choose AIESEC? There are so many other organizations, right?
AIESEC is an entirely for-youth, by-youth organization. While this might seem scary, it actually keeps our ideas fresh and the organization modern. We believe that youth are the key to unlocking a better future, so AIESEC provides opportunities for young people to work or volunteer abroad in non-familiar environments and challenge themselves.
There are many organizations that send youth abroad to volunteer, of course, but AIESEC is one that stays with the exchange participant the entire way. Members help you find the opportunity, apply, and get approved, of course, but they also help you through your entire journey of finding flights and insurance, along with keeping in contact with both you and the host entity to provide a bridge for communication. This way, if there are any issues at all, a member will always be there to help solve them.
In addition, we provide spaces for every exchange participant to develop their soft skills, hard skills, and leadership skills in order for each exchange participant to grow and help their community, others, and the world become better places.
